SYMPOSIUM & AGM
The SASCE Symposium and AGM on 20/21 November 2014 at CPUT in Cape Town was successful. Thank you to those that were able to attend given the short notice.
The Symposium on 20 November attracted 170 people from universities, TVET colleges, SETAs, NSA, DHET, QCTO and industry. Presentations were well-received, with the highlight being the presentation by Mr Nhlanhla Dimba on the KZN Retail School of Excellence. The presentation by the Dept of Rural Development on the NARYSEC Program did not take place. Dr Anton van Staden, the Manager of Narysec, apologises. (The representative from the local Cape Dept of Rural Dev, did not stay long enough to make the presentation due to his being called away on other business).
The Board meeting that took place after the symposium was quorate and there was some discussion about contracting MCI to administer SASCE from 2015 onwards. The Exco took note of the comments and is addressing the issues raised.
The dinner that evening was well-received at a lovely venue.
On 21 November, Mr Eubert Mashabane (DHET), Acting Chief Director WIL, presented on funding of WIL. Mr Iida from JICA also presented on JICA’s project with the UoTs.
There were no major issues raised at the AGM. The elections for each position were not contested, with there being only one nomination for each.
The SASCE Office-bearers are therefore:
President: Shakeel Ori
Vice-President: Boni Gantile
Treasurer: Carva Pop
Secretary: Annie Moletsane
The remaining 4 positions on Exco will be filled at the first Board meeting in 2015.
Appreciation is conveyed to outgoing Exco members.
Appreciation also to Fundi Nofemela & her CPUT team for all arrangements made for this event and for the sponsorship from CPUT.
Gratitude also to other sponsors: SANLAM; VUT; DUT (all printing, including the AGM issue of the Journal)
